Why Chiang Mai? I don’t know. I always seem to end up back here and it’s nothing special, it’s just chilled out. It’s different from the rest of Thailand.
This time of the year is the rainy season and when it rains, it rains. Rain here is nice, its not to hot but always above 30 degrees. Last time I was in Chiang Mai it was 42 degrees which was horrible. Rainy season is the best time of year to visit SEA.
I came to Chiang Mai because it’s quiet. The last three cities i’ve visited; Shanghai, Osaka and Seoul are all super busy so it was good to have a change. Chiang Mai has been a cheap month and i’ve not done much, mostly just walking about eating streetfood. I’ve spent a few days in Pattaya (never again) and also to Chiang Rai. Next stop before leaving Thialand is Bangkok; back to the hectic. No plans for Bangkok but it was a lot cheaper to fly to Bangkok then onto Cambodia than it was straight to Cambodia.
For me now, I feel like I am used to Thailand. The novelty has worn off and it’s just a place to live. It’s a great country, perhaps i’ve been here too many times. In the past year i’ve been to Thailand four times so it’s time to go somewhere else. Plans change but i’ve got an idea what I want to do for the next 6 months.
I am writing this sat in Chiang Mai airport waiting to go check in because I turned up way too early. Only another 3 hours till my flight takes off. Till then i’m working on my website; I might create an image gallery for blog posts.
Cambodia next and I don’t plan to stay in the country long. I just want to be a tourist at Angkor Wat and then head on towards Saigon. That’s the plan and it will change at some point. Maybe stay in Cambodia for a few weeks, i’ll see how fast the internet is….. first world problems.
